How Often Should You Detail Your Car?

There's no single answer — it depends on how and where you drive. A practical guide to building a detailing routine that suits your car.

Detailing is a thorough, step-by-step clean of your car's exterior and interior. How often you need one depends far more on your driving than on a calendar.

Things that change how often you need it

Consider a full detail more often if any of these apply:

  • You drive on dusty roads or park outdoors for long periods.
  • The car carries children, pets or work equipment.
  • You eat or drink in the car regularly.
  • The car is parked under trees or near construction.

A practical routine

Many owners find a simple rhythm works well: careful regular washing to remove dust and grime before it builds up, a quick interior tidy and vacuum, and a full exterior and interior detail every few months.

If the paint is protected with a ceramic coating or sealant, regular washing becomes quicker and easier — but it is still needed.

Signs your car is due

It's probably time for a proper detail if:

  • The paint feels rough to the touch after washing.
  • Water no longer beads or sheets off the paint.
  • Seats, carpets or mats have visible stains or odours.
  • Dust has built up in vents, seams and door shuts.
  • You're about to sell the car or use it for a special occasion.
